Things that you Absolutely need!

-First things first, you are out on the water, so you need a personal flotation device (PFD).

-An extra paddle- The paddle is your life; it is how you move.  If you loose your only pair, your are literally up a creek without a paddle.

-Flashlight, with extra batteries

-Whistle

-Waterproof map!

-Compass

-Drain plugs/ pumps

-Sunscreen and/or hat

-Snacks and water

=if going on a multiday trip, invest in a hydration system or water purifying devices

-A waterproof First Aid Kit, including

     =bandages

     =gauze rolls

     =moleskin (Great for blisters)

     =safety pins

     =first aid tape

     =aspirin

     =tweezers

=pre- soaked iodine pads (anseptic to clean wounds, which could

get infected in the great outdoors)

     =antibotic creams (Neosporin)

     =Any personal medication (allergies)

     = scissors

     = swiss army knife

    = Survival Blankets

-Have a smaller First Aid kit close to hand, which is easy to reach while on the river

-Weather radio

-Tow Line

-Multi- purpose tool

-waterproof matches or lighter

Things that aren't necessary, but doesn't hurt to be prepared!

-A splint for the first aid kit

-A waterproof patch

-Waterproof flare

-Handheld GPS

-Solar charger for your cell phone

-Float bags- Inflatable bags that go inside

the ends of the kayak.  In case you take on

too much water and have to drag your

kayak back to shore, this will lighten the load.
